At last! What to do when your best people just don't seem to be management material.

When training has failed ...

Are your best people stuck? Do you wish that they could take on more responsibility? They're technically skilled but now need:

  • to directly manage others
  • to take the lead in advising and influencing more widely.
They've had training but still aren't equipped to take on either of these roles effectively. The results are poor management of teams and badly informed decision making at a higher level.

And what about management succession? Are you faced with the expense of recruiting from outside? And how will you retain your skilled people if you pass them over for promotion?

This circle can be broken. Training in management theory hasn't helped because it failed to address the real barriers. Only when people change their personal goals and beliefs, as well as learning some appropriate techniques, can genuine progress be made.

We get what we expect to get! A lot of people believe that good managers are born, not made. So we accept a poor response to training and take it as proof that we've got the "wrong sort" of people!
